Do you include quotes of over 40 words in your word count?

Answer

All quotes are counted in the word count.  The University's Academic Regulations (copies of which are available to download) states in determining the text to be included within the maximum word limit, the following items are excluded:
• abstracts
• data
• tables
• figures
• diagrams
• in-text references/citations (this means Author(s) and Date not actual quote)
• footnotes/endnotes used for reference purposes and kept within reasonable limits
• list of references and/or bibliography
• appendices

You may wish to check with your lecturer regarding how these will be assessed.
