If I paraphrase the words or ideas of someone else and put them in my own words, do I still need to provide a reference?

Answer

It is good academic practice to summarise and paraphrase the words and ideas of other people, as this demonstrates to your tutors that you have understood what you have read, but you must acknowledge that these are not your own original ideas by providing a full reference, both in the text and in your reference list.
