Is it OK to use several long quotes, link them together with a few words of my own, and provide references?

Answer

This is not an academic offence but it is poor academic practice, and likely to be treated as plagiarism once you're past your first year.

It is better to try and summarise your quotes in your own words, as your tutors will then be able to see that you've understood what you have read.
